It’s hard to believe that eight short weeks ago we welcomed our newest pledge class, Spicy Spring 2011. Bid Day was a whirlwind of excitement and after getting to know our new Phis the excitement continued to grow. I have loved every minute of teaching them about Phi Mu and helping them envision their future places in Gamma Delta. Finally, it’s time for the most exciting part of the Phi Process (maybe after Big/Little week), Inspiration Week! This is a week where the Phis can start getting completely ready for Initiation. The Phis had a fun-filled week of activities designed to engage the Phis in the last week of their Phi Process- from bonding more with the chapter, their Phi class, and the Fraternity.
The week followed a P-H-I-M-U theme, meaning each day was themed after one letter of Phi Mu. Sunday was “P” themed and the Phis had a Phi meeting, a pizza party, and decorated plaques in the chapter room until the wee hours of the night. The Phis came up with fun games and activities to review the history of Phi Mu and fun Phi Mu facts.
Monday was “H” for History. We continued our tradition of having a Carnation Ceremony where the Phis learn about the history of the carnation. The Phis also received superlatives, such as “Most Phi Mu Spirit,” as a fun way to commemorate their Phi process. The Phis had a lot of fun with the awards and it was a great morale booster to get them ready for I-Week!
Tuesday night was “I” themed, and our Phis and their Big Sisters shared ice cream sundaes together.
Wednesday night was themed “M” for Memories. The Spicy Spring Phi class made a beautiful scrapbook to commemorate their pledge class and to highlight the events they had during the process such as their Phi Retreat and Big Sis/ Little Sis Revelation. Each Phi made her own page that includes a little bio about herself. Their scrapbook was a wonderful way for the Phis to reflect on their Phi process.
Thursday, the day before Initiation, was themed “U” for Unity. On Thursday the chapter came together for the Love, Honor, Truth Ceremony and Lion Passing. Lion Passing is one of our chapter traditions where all of the sisters and Phis sit in a circle and pass around a stuffed Sir Fidel. When holding the lion, each sister or Phi shares her favorite memory that happened during her time in Phi Mu. The stories range from crazy to heartwarming and there were plenty of laughs and tears during Lion Passing.
And then on Friday was Initiation! We are so incredibly proud to call the women of Spring 2011 our sisters! Initiation was beautiful as always and we look forward to watching our new sisters grow throughout their time in Phi Mu.
